The independent cultural prize awarded by the LAKS Baden-Württemberg is named after Amalie and Theo Pinkus. They were booksellers and activists in the New Social Movements in Germany and in Switzerland from the 1960s. This prize is given in remembrance of two people who put into practice like no others their idea of self-governance in their work and who contributed to the development of a civil society of responsible citizens. Sociocultural centres are bound to work for this objective. The Amalie and Theo Pinkus Cultural Prize is an encouragement for anyone trying to implement practically a concrete utopia.
Each winner of the cultural prize is financially awarded with 1.500 euros and endowed with a manufactured stela from the sculptor Peter Jacobi.
